Cilantro Hemp Tabbouleh & Manitoba Harvest Review

Natalia Karoway

If you haven’t figured it out by now, let me share a little something with you—I’m hemp obsessed!  I have been enjoying hemp seeds since I began to experiment with raw foods in 2007.  These flavorful, little seeds find their way into my salads, smoothies, dressings and desserts probably more often than any other ingredient.  As a culinary element, I adore their versatility.  Hemp seeds add a light, nutty flavor and texture to both my sweet and savory dishes.  On the flip side, when you’re looking for something smooth and creamy, hemp seeds blend up perfectly.  In the world of superfood nutrition, hemp shines bright, providing us with an easily digested source of protein, all 10 essential amino acids, balanced levels of Omega-3 & 6 essential fatty acids (including the rare & beneficial GLA) and many other vital vitamins and minerals.

I recently had the pleasure of sampling Manitoba Harvest’s line of hemp products including their seed, oil and butter. The hemp butter was a divine treat!  In all my years of hemp infatuation, for some strange reason, I had never tasted the butter.  It was the first item I opened when my samples arrived and I instantly dug right in with a spoon.  I loved everything about the first bite—the smooth texture, the green color, the earthy, hemp flavor—wow!  I devoured that first jar and I’ve already purchased a second.  It’s time to welcome a new staple into my life!  My favorite way to enjoy it so far has been with a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of salt and a banana for dipping.  I highly recommend sharing this snack with kids instead of the subpar peanut butter I grew up on.

I love it when I have hemp oil in the house, giving me a break from my olive oil habit.  Drizzling it on salads with a little lemon or apple cider vinegar, Himalayan salt and herbs is a common simple dinner solution in my house.  I love Manitoba Harvest’s oil, perfectly nutty in flavor and full of healthy fats that my body just craves.

Of course, their hemp seeds are just perfect.  I whipped up a batch of my favorite Creamy Peppercorn Ranch Dressing and enjoyed every luscious bite.  With the seeds I had left over, I created an amazing new dish, Cilantro Hemp Tabbouleh.  Wow—you’re in for a treat when you give this recipe a try!

Besides the high quality of their organic and pesticide-free products, I also love that Manitoba Harvest supports renewable energy in their facility and follows green practices in their offices.  Check out their full line of products!

So, for the grand finale, here is a brand new recipe.  This is perfect for those days when the weather is warming up and you want to keep the stove off, which for me, is everyday!

Cilantro Hemp Tabbouleh & Manitoba Harvest Review

Cilantro Hemp Tabbouleh

serves 4-6

Let’s give traditional tabbouleh a fresh new twist with zesty cilantro and nutty hemp seeds.  This salad is ultra refreshing and full of the health boosting benefits that hemp foods offer: essential amino acids, balanced essential fatty acids and easily digestible protein.  Also, cilantro is an amazing food that helps cleanse the body of toxic heavy metals.  Besides all that goodness, this quick dish is beyond flavorful.

4 cups diced cucumber (remove the seeds if very large)
3 cups roughly chopped cilantro leaves
1¾ cups diced heirloom tomatoes
¾ cup diced red bell pepper
½ cup Manitoba Harvest hemp seed
¼ cup diced sweet onion
¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
6 tablespoon Manitoba Harvest hemp oil
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Himalayan salt

Toss all ingredients in a large bowl.  Serve.  So easy & so luscious!

Wishes of Bliss!
